First 16 year old donor gives blood at Houchin kicking off the highly successful Eclipse Drive!

Houchin Community Blood Bank proudly welcomes Emily Heiber as their first “16 Year Old Donor”!

Emily, a Junior this fall at BHS has been 16 for only 5 days now and was so excited to hear she would now be eligible to donate blood. She remembers her sister attending a high school blood drive and how excited she was to make a difference in saving the life of another.  Emily stated “it is amazing to know that I could be the blood type that will help someone else in time of need.  I first heard about the new eligibility from my grandfather who saw it in the paper this week.  Both my brother and my sister encouraged me to come in early.  I stopped by the blood bank this week to pick up the appropriate consent form.  I am truly proud to be the “First 16 year old donor in Kern County”!
Last Friday’s Eclipse Evening Blood Drive collected 153 units of blood!! 53% being first time donors! A HUGE thank you to everyone who came out!! Stay tuned for more events!

Twilight Saga: Eclipse Event Ushers in 16-Year-Olds New Ability to Donate Blood Locally

The upcoming vampire movie “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” has many teen fans eagerly anticipating its premiere. Five “cast” members will be on hand to take pictures with donors. Much of Houchin will be decorated similarly to scenes from the Twilight series books. There will be free food and drawings for prizes.
