Registered Nurse – Full Time

Houchin Community Blood Bank is looking for a full time registered nurse to join our Donor Services team.  Our “charge nurses” work with healthy people who are volunteering to contribute blood, platelets or plasma, either at our two Bakersfield Donor Centers or on mobile drives throughout Kern County. They are in charge of, and provide supervision, over the day-to-day operation of the donor room floors or mobile buses. Flexible hours including weekends are required. A full benefits package is provided.

The Registered Nurse must be precise, accurate, and analytical to handle all facets of the work without letting details slip through the cracks to meet Quality Assurance standards. We need team players who genuinely enjoy people, can encourage repeat donations, and can accomplish our mission through a respectful, constructive and collaborative style.

The primary duties of the Registered Nurse are:

  • screen and evaluate the eligibility of potential donors
  • perform phlebotomy
  • care for any reactions that may occur during the donation procedure
  • assuring a pleasant experience for donors
  • manage donor flow on blood drives and amongst staff
  • supervise and lead team members on donor centers and blood drives

Job Requirements

  • Current State of California license for registered nurse
  • 0 – 2 years nursing experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft office applications
  • Proficient in typing with emphasis on data entry
  • Venipuncture and phlebotomy experience
  • Current State of California driver’s license
  • Current CPR
  • Excellent customer service skills

Storage and Distribution – Full Time

Houchin Community Blood Bank is looking for a team player to train as a full-time member of our Storage and Distribution team. Our Storage and Distribution team works to maintain a safe blood, platelet and plasma supply. They interact with the hospitals in Kern County and elsewhere to meet the needs of the patients by packaging and delivering life-saving blood and blood products. Flexible hours including weekends, evening and over nights are required.

Storage and Distribution personnel must be precise, accurate, and analytical to handle all facets of the work without letting details slip through the cracks to meet Quality Assurance standards. We need team players who genuinely enjoy people and take pride in making quality products.

Job Requirements

  • Current State of California driver’s license
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent

Tele-recruiter – Part Time

Are you ready for a new adventure as part of a great team making a difference every day? We have an immediate opening for a part-time tele-recruiter. The position works as part of a cohesive team working with volunteer donors to collect blood to save lives. All training is provided. The team member we seek will fit well into a positive working environment calling for drives throughout Kern County and for our two donor centers. Some college and bi-lingual Spanish skills are a plus. Applicants must be able to:

Requirements of qualified candidates include:

  • Work a night shift of 4-8 Sunday through Thursday, along with some day time shifts, once you are trained
  • Communicate well orally and in writing
  • Understand computer systems and applications
  • Demonstrate attention to detail
  • Work in a close environment with other recruiters
