Storage and Distribution – Part Time

Houchin Community Blood Bank is looking for a team player to train as a part-time member of our Storage and Distribution team. Our Storage and Distribution team works to maintain a safe blood, platelet and plasma supply. They interact with the hospitals in Kern County and elsewhere to meet the needs of the patients by packaging and delivering life-saving blood and blood products. Flexible hours including weekends, evening and over nights are required.

Storage and Distribution personnel must be precise, accurate, and analytical to handle all facets of the work without letting details slip through the cracks to meet Quality Assurance standards. We need team players who genuinely enjoy people and take pride in making quality products.

Job Requirements

  • Current State of California driver’s license
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent

Manufacturing – Full and Part Time

Houchin Community Blood Bank has immediate openings for team players to train as full and part -time members of our Manufacturing team.  Our Manufacturing team works with units of blood, platelets and plasma donated by community volunteers to turn them into the approved products for patient transfusion. Flexible hours including weekends are required.

Manufacturing personnel must be precise, accurate, and analytical to handle all facets of the work without letting details slip through the cracks to meet Quality Assurance standards. We need team players who genuinely enjoy people and take pride in making quality products.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Manufacture blood products from donated units.
  • Perform each step in the process with accuracy and attention to detail.

Requirements of qualified candidates include:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • The ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, early mornings, and weekends.

Phlebotomist – Part Time

We are looking for team players who genuinely enjoys people and can accomplish our mission through a respectful, constructive and collaborative style.  The ideal candidate will have flexible hours and weekends are required at any Houchin Community Blood Bank fixed site or mobile collection site.  Duties include registering, interviews, screens and selects potential donors.  Performs venipuncture and collects blood products per policy or automated process following all applicable regulatory standards and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).  Provides donor care and conducts equipment quality control while delivering excellent customer service and adhering to company standards.

Requirements:

Experience:

  • Possess valid driver’s license and insured on an automobile policy and be eligible for insurability under HCBB’s insurance provider
  • Previous experience working in a medical environment is preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Previous experience taking and recording medical histories is preferred
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, as well as basic geography and math skills are essential
  • Ability to complete forms using correct spelling and grammar
  • Attention to detail skills a must
  • Critical thinking skills and schedule flexibility are a must
  • Ability to perform donor care and intervention
  • We do not have a consistent schedule. The schedules are wide-ranging and will include early mornings to late evening shifts with Saturday and Sunday in rotation

Mobile Bus Driver – Part Time

We are currently seeking a part-time mobile bus driver to join our team of drivers.  The position requires a team player who enjoys working with people and takes pride in handling duties in a safe manner.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Transport staff and equipment on 40-foot mobile collection bus to and from mobile sites.
  • Park and level the mobile bus.
  • Assemble and disassemble portable equipment for the mobile collection setting.
  • Maintain mobile site and bus in a clean and orderly manner.
  • Assist with the collection of blood units from volunteer donors.

Requirements of qualified candidates include:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum California Class B Driver License with air brake and passenger endorsements
  • Clean driving record.
  • The ability to lift, carry and pull up to 50 pounds.
  • The ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, early mornings, and weekends.
